What are EMP Bags?
EMP or Electro Magnetic Pulse is called sometimes as transient electromagnetic disturbance. This is more of a short burst of electromagnetic energy which should not be taken lightly. The pulse has originated from natural occurrence and also, this can be manmade and might occur as an electric, radiated, conducted electric current or magnetic field all of which will depend on source.
The interference created by EMP is oftentimes disruptive or damaging to the electronic devices and equipment. At higher energy levels, powerful EMPs like a lightning strike is enough to destroy physical objects like aircraft structures, buildings and so on. One of the significant branches of EMC or Electromagnetic compatibility engineering is the management of its effect. In reality, EMPs are also used by the military nowadays by weaponizing its effect.
This is the time when Faraday cage was invented. Actually, this was named after Michael Faraday and this is the type of device that is made intentionally to provide protection on the electronic devices from any kind of electromagnetic radiation. The cage works by layering non conductive and conductive layers, creating a shielding effect for items that are stored inside the cage and protecting it from radiation. Despite the fact that it seems complicated, anyone can basically build their own Faraday cage by simply using an aluminum foil.

Step number 1. Wrap your electronic device in plastic layer – first thing you have to do is wrap your device inside the plastic wrap or put it in plastic bag. This is going to create barrier between the conductive aluminum layer and the device. Aside from protecting your device from EMP, this can protect it as well from water.
Step number 2. Cover every inch of your device with aluminum foil – the reason why this should be done is that, the aluminum foil act as a conducting layer. In order for this one to be effective, make sure that the aluminum foil you’re using has no gaps or tears. Ideally, use your hands to mold the foil around your device. This act as the first 3 layers of aluminum foil.
Step number 3. Alternate the aluminum foil and plastic – as much as possible, put three layers of aluminum foil. Maximize the protection it brings by adding plastics in between layers. As you do so, this will create alternating layer of conductive and non-conductive materials and protect the device from electromagnetic radiation.
